Google Pixel 4: What to expect from new Google phones

The fourth generation of the Google Pixel line is coming; check out rumors and expectations for the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL

After years of providing the world's leading mobile operating system, Google decided in 2016 to enter the hardware world with the launch of the Pixel line. These are phones designed by Google with features exclusive to Android and intended to serve as a reference for other models using the same platform. In 2019, Google will launch the fourth generation of the Pixel line.

It should be a while before the official announcement: Google tends to launch its phones between September and October, and it looks like things won't change this year. Despite this, some information has already begun to leak, not to mention the rumors that always accompany the release of highly anticipated devices.


The Pixel line so far has not shown up - at least unofficially - but despite that, a lot of people around the world want to know: what can we expect from Pixel 4? After all, what happens in Google's labs ends up being reproduced outside of them: features of the company's mobile phones are also incorporated by other manufacturers.

Google Pixel 4: How many models will be released?


A lot of Pixel 4 has already leaked, and that has made Google go a little further. The company has released an official rendering confirming that one of the devices will be called Pixel 4. It should be accompanied by another slightly larger device: the Pixel 4 XL.

lthough Google has not yet released a prediction for the launch of the Pixel line, data found in US carrier files indicate that mobile phones will be released in October.

Screen

Rumors indicate that Google plans to use technologies to improve the quality of images displayed on the display of Pixel phones. The XDA-Developers say that a feature for automatic white balance should be incorporated into appliances, which allow, among other things, the screen adjusts to ambient lighting.

A part from that, the screens of the new Pixel should bring little news. Pixel 4 should use a 5.6 to a 5.8-inch display with 2160 x 1080 resolution, while Pixel 4 XL would have between 6.2 and 6.4 inches with 3040 x 1440 resolution.

Design

Google has already confirmed the partial design of Pixel 4. In an image posted on Twitter, the company confirmed that the device will get a square "spine" to house the rear cameras.

You can also see that the fingerprint reader is no longer in the back: it can be integrated into the phone screen, as is the case with other devices.


The front is a mystery, but rumors indicate that the two phones will look alike. No notches: At the top of the screen is a small "forehead" to house front sensors. The image below was taken by the well known On Leaks caster and shows the Pixel 4 XL:

Technical specifications

An alleged Pixel 4 benchmark test has already been leaked, indicating that it will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with 6 GB of RAM - more than last year's 4 GB of Pixel 3 RAM.

Increasing RAM alone is already a boon for Pixel owners, who suffer from sluggishness and difficulty switching applications with 4 GB of RAM.



These settings must be retained in both Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. Both are sure to come out of the box with Android Q - Google always launches phones with the latest version of Android, and the platform update is due for release in August.

Special Features

Pixel phones often get unique features that aren't always available on other Android devices. Current models can, for example, detect a "squeeze" on the sides made by the user - it identifies as a command that allows you to open Google Assistant.


But Google's main bet should be on gestures. True, the company has already tried to incorporate new forms of interaction with Android, but now it will be different.

According to Android Q documentation, Pixel phones are likely to gain yet another feature that is related to a technology called Google's own Project Soli. It detects changes in waves in the vicinity of the smartphone to identify gestures made in the air.

That is, with Project Soli technology, it would be possible to control the Pixel without even touching the screen of the device. Google gained permission to use the technology in the United States late last year.



And in addition to the on-screen fingerprint reader, the new Pixel line should gain another bio-metric feature: face recognition - some say Google can insert up to five sensors on the front of the phones for face identification.

Camera

The Pixel line will finally follow camera trend: Google for the first time will include more than one sensor on the back of the phone - as you can see in the image released by the company itself.


The question now is what technologies will be employed in the rear set of cameras - rumors indicate that one of the sensors should be 16 MP.


Already in the front, as we said before, one of the main inclusions should be the Soli chip, a kind of radar that allows you to control the phone without touching it - and without voice commands.
