Honor announces its first mobile phones Honor 9X and Honor 9X Pro with pop up selfie camera and Kirin 810 SoC

After several rumors, the time has come: Honor 9X and 9X Pro are official. The manufacturer has just introduced these new mobile phones in China. Two very similar mid-range phones in design. The difference between the two is the memory configuration and triple camera in the case of the most advanced model.

To continue with the tendency to include the largest possible screen in a relatively compact body, Honor presents a device with a retractable front camera, hidden in the upper frame and that appears as if it were a periscope when we are going to use it. Therefore the 'notch' disappears and we pass to a terminal with a very clean front and a FullHD + panel of almost 6.6 inches.

Crystal design and alternate fingerprint reader

Unlike other models that introducing the fingerprint reader under the screen, the new Honor 9X and 9X Pro have chosen to keep the physical reader, although on one side to not occupy space in the rear.

The body of the Honor 9X is made of glass, with an X-shaped gradient to remind us of the name of the device. The screen chosen is a 6.59-inch LTPS LCD panel, 19.5: 9 ratio and FullHD + resolution with 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. No sign of the extended 'notch', which is gradually giving way to cleaner models with pop up the camera that at least in other models offers good results.

Android 9 Pie next to EMUI 9.1 is the software version that we will find. While at the level of connectivity we have the expected with Bluetooth 5.0, USB type C and WiFi AC, although without a trace of the NFC.

Inside the Honor 9X, we find a Kirin 810 processor, with Cortex A76 cores at 2.27GHz. This is the new Huawei chipset for the mid-range that comes to renew the extended Kirin 710. This year a more powerful Mali G52 MP6 GPU is included and especially the NPU has been improved, to incorporate faster artificial intelligence and, according to the company, equivalent to the high end of the competition.

The Honor 9X arrives with 4 and 6GB versions of RAM, in addition to a 64 or 128GB storage that will be expandable by microSD card. In the Pro model, the RAM goes up to 8GB and the storage starts at 128GB, with a 256GB version.

The Honor 9X incorporates a dual camera, while the Pro model adds a triple camera. The main camera is a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor with an f / 1.8 aperture lens. We are facing a camera that will use the 'Pixel Binning' technique to combine four pixels in one and get more light. Also, the Honor 9X adds night mode and artificial intelligence to improve photo processing.

Accompanying this main sensor we have a secondary lens of two megapixels to perform portrait mode and depth capture. Finally, in the Honor 9X Pro, a third 8-megapixel sensor is added for the wide-angle. There are no differences in the periscope front camera, where the sensor used is 16 megapixels with an f / 2.2 aperture lens.
