LG G8X ThinQ With Dual Screen, Snapdragon 855 SoC and Dual Rear Camera
The IFA 2019 is not being precisely quiet. Despite not being an event designed for mobile phones, but there have been few brands that have taken advantage of the event to announce new devices. One of them has been LG, which has shown us the new LG G8X ThinQ, a kind of brother of the LG G8 ThinQ, but with an important addition inherited from the LG V50 ThinQ: the LG Dual Screen.
The new Korean device is a high range with all the letters. Proof of this is its Snapdragon 855 and the 6.4-inch OLED screen it has on its front.
A renovated design and a fingerprint reader is hidden under the panel
We start with the aesthetic section, where we find some very own design lines of LG, but that little or nothing has to do with the previous model. The device has a clean rear in a single color (Aurora Black) in which we find the "module" with the double camera and LED flash. Quotation marks because it is not a module as such since the cameras are integrated into the chassis of the device.
If we turn it around we will see the screen, a FullVision 6.4-inch OLED in 19.5: 9 format whose resolution remains in FullHD + (2,340 x 1,080 pixels), that is, 403 pixels per inch. We have notch again, only this time it is shaped like a drop.
The LG G8X ThinQ is somewhat larger than the LG G8 Thinq, but it has a lower resolution.
The fingerprint reader, following in the wake of other high-end markets, has been implemented under the screen. Its technology has not been mentioned, but the most normal thing is that it was of the optical type. To top it off, note that the LG G8X ThinQ has a stereo speaker, IP68 certification and military resistance MIL-STD 810G. Even so, the highlight is the compatibility with the double screen, but we'll talk about it later.
The same processor of the LG G8 ThinQ
The LG G8X ThinQ collects the witness of the LG G8 ThinQ in terms of power. Thus, we found the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor (not the Plus model ) accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, this being the only version available. The internal storage can be expanded up to 2TB using microSD memory cards.
The device has the Snapdragon 855 processor accompanied by 6 GB of RAM.
The operating system is Android 9 Pie made up with the feature customization layer of LG and will move with the 4,000 mAh battery, which has Quick Charge 3.0. Finally, we can talk about connectivity, a section in which LG has not forgotten anything. We have WiFi ac (2.4 and 5 GHz), NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB type C 3.1.
Although in this section we talk about performance, we will take the opportunity to mention the sound. LG has bet very strongly on this section in its last smartphone, and this flagship was not going to be otherwise. The LG G8X ThinQ has a 1.2W speaker customized by Meridian Audio, Quad DAC high definition and 32 bits and DTS sound: X 3D Surround, proper names that we already know and that, at least on paper, promise a good experience.
Two rear cameras and one in the notch
Before talking about the double screen, let's stop at the photographic section. In the rear, we have a double camera of 12 + 13 megapixels that fulfill the function of the main and wide-angle sensor. The first one, the 12 megapixels one, has 1.4-micron pixels, a 78º angle of view and f / 1.8 aperture. The second, on the other hand, has 136º the angle of vision, pixels of a micron and aperture f / 2.4.
We find again elements such as AI Cam or Google Lens, as well as some interesting implementations. The device is capable of recording time-lapses in 4K, you can switch from the rear camera to the front without cutting the video and it has AI Action Shot, which recognizes the movement of the photo and compensates with a speed of 1/480 seconds.
From the photographic section highlights the camera for selfies of 32 megapixels
Where there is an important leap is in the selfie. The LG G8X ThinQ has, in the words of LG, "the best front camera to date of its entire portfolio", and the device has a 32-megapixel sensor with 1.6-micron pixels. Beyond its resolution, the "Reflector" mode stands out, which adjusts the lighting in dark situations to extract some more light.
LG Dual Screen: now in the G range and rotating completely
The double screen deserves its section. The first time we saw the LG Dual Screen was in the LG V50 ThinQ as a kind of competitor for the Huawei and Samsung folding phones, and now the Korean firm takes this screen from the V range to take it to the G. On this occasion , we have a screen of the same size as the device to which it is attached, notch included.
The double screen now rotates 360 degrees
But there is some interesting news. On the one hand, a small 2.1-inch screen has been added on the back of the Dual Screen, so that when the phone is "folded" you can check the time, date, battery charge and notifications received. On the other, the screen now bends 360 degrees with a hinge baptized as Freestop 360º, which convertible laptop.
By the way, this Dual Screen no longer adheres with some Pogo pins, but via USB. That allows it to be used more comfortably when the phone has a case, for example. To mention its specifications, it weighs 134 grams, it comes in the same color as the phone (Aurora Black) and its screen is the same as that of the LG G8X ThinQ.
Versions and price of LG G8X ThinQ
LG has not disclosed the price of its device, but there will be a single version of 6/128 GB of internal storage. The LG G8X ThinQ and the new LG Dual Screen will be available in "key markets" for the fourth quarter of the year, leaving us a window between October and December.
