Sony is already developing new flagship with Snapdragon 865 processor

Indeed, Sony can no longer reach the popularity of other times while being among the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world. However, the Japanese manufacturer remains committed to launching top of the line every year with Qualcomm's latest processors.

According to new information, the manufacturer is already developing a new high-end smartphone that will arrive with the Snapdragon 865 processor, the successor of the popular SD855 +.

Sony may be first to use Snapdragon 865

The information was seen in the code of the latest firmware update made available by Sony. Some lines of code have already referred to the "SM8250" processor, which is believed to be the codename for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865.

So far virtually no information is known about the capabilities / specifications of this new processor. We only know that Qualcomm will release two variants, offering support for 4G and / or 5G. This is expected to become a common strategy by 2020 as 5G smartphones are increasingly in demand, but the availability of new 5G networks is not yet 100% globally.

Also, the price of processors with 5G support is still quite high. This enables manufacturers to launch smartphones with the most powerful processor, while maintaining the prices their fans have become accustomed to.

What we can expect from Sony's next flagship

It is still a long time before Sony's next flagship is officially unveiled, which is expected to happen during MWC 2020 in Barcelona. So rumors / leaks about their possible specs have not yet emerged, only that will come with the Snapdragon 865.

This year, the manufacturer decided to risk a new design for their smartphones, launching them with a peculiarly 'stretched' format. The Sony Xperia 1 with the "CinemaWide" screen did not please all users, but managed to gain some popularity.

If the brand decides to continue to bet on this type of screen, we hope that they can also make considerable improvements in the photographic segment. Possibly, the new flagship Xperia will come equipped with a total of 4 rear cameras, offering the versatility and quality that Sony fans crave.
