16 reasons not to buy Google Pixel 4

Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are available for purchase and reviews to have begun to appear in several publications. People compare their room to those on other smartphones and praise the software part and other aspects. However, the launch day reviews are not eloquent enough to judge a product whose problems come to light only after prolonged use and once more people put their hands on the phone, they will become more visible.

Google Pixel 4 also received the title of "most leaked smartphone ever", just before its official announcement. All the news, photos and videos show that Google's new smartphone has been highly anticipated, and with the launch of the iPhone 11 series that brings a better camera set than Pixel 3, the hype has grown even more.

Now, let's see why Google Pixel 4 is not such a good idea:

1. It does not have a pair of headphones in the package

Despite the paper price, Google doesn't include a pair of headphones or a Type-C - 3.5mm jack adapter in the Pixel 4 package, so you'll need to buy a pair of wireless or USB Type-C headsets next to your phone if they don't have one. already.

2. Low battery life

Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL have the shortest battery life of the premium phone range of the year 2019. This is because the 90Hz display is powered by low capacity batteries, so one day on the battery would become a luxury with the new phones.

3. Facial unlocking works even with eyes closed

Some people might say it's not a big deal and it's a bonus that you can unlock the phone even when you have your eyes closed ... or sleeping. Considering that this method of authentication also works with banking applications or storing sensitive information, I do not have to explain why it is minus the fact that someone can use your device even if you sleep.

4. The 90Hz refresh rate operates only over 75% brightness

The Pixel 4's screen offers an extremely fluid experience with a refresh rate of 90% only when the brightness is set to over 75%, so it will remain locked at 60Hz. Google claims it is working on an update that will fix this problem and it will be available "in the coming weeks."

5. Pixel 4's camera does not live up to expectations

Google used DxOMark to get a previous Pixel camera score. The same test gave Pixel 4 only 112 points, which ranks 9th in the top 10. As a comparison, OnePlus 7 Pro scored 114 points. Even the night photography mode on the iPhone 11 has proven more efficient than Pixel 4, which makes Google's new smartphone seem smaller than other devices.

6. Disappointing video recording

Pixel 4 does not support 4K video capture at 60FPS. No improvements were made to the dynamic range or stabilization. Even the front camera is a disappointment on the video recording side. Meanwhile, the competition continues to grow considerably.

7. Motion Sense problematic

The new Motion Sense feature on the Pixel 4 doesn't go quite as well as Google promised. Do you want to change the song with a gesture made over the phone? Unfortunately, you will have to use the screen more often than you think because the gestures do not work properly.

8. Poor display brightness

Shockingly, DisplayMate offered Pixel 4's A + rank and named it perfect. I suppose visually perfect means that you don't necessarily need to see what's displayed on the screen under sunlight or other similar scenarios. The OLED screen on the Pixel 4 has a brightness of only 444 nits. To put things in perspective, the iPhone 5S launched in 2013 has a brightness of 500 nits.

9. Lack of a headphone jack

Let's remember how Google was cool with Apple removing the headphone jack with the release of the iPhone 7. Guess what? Neither does Pixel 4 have a headphone jack, so you'll either have to buy an adapter or use another device if you prefer a pair of headphones on the jack.

10. Lack of ultra-wide camera

In exchange for the ultra-wide camera that people love to use, Google has included a 2X telephoto camera that doesn't even take Portrait pictures. The normal lens is used for portrait photos, even if the camera seems to zoom automatically.

11. Lack of 2-way wireless charging

Do you own a pair of earbuds with wireless charging housing? Well, you can't load them with Pixel 4. If users were disappointed when this happened with the iPhone 11, people will lose their minds when they see that this situation is repeated with Pixel 4.

12. Google Photos no longer offers full quality free back-up for photos

One of the best features of Google Pixel phones was this. Up to Pixel 3, users could purchase their phones and receive unlimited free storage at maximum quality through Google Photos. This is no longer the case because Pixel 4 no longer offers this. Do you like the camera but the 64GB of storage does not reach you? It's time to get a Google One subscription for photo storage. Convenient, right?

13. Disappointing storage capabilities

I was talking above about the 64GB of storage. You may think that this is the minimum capacity that comes with the Pixel 4, and while that is true, how can I tell you that the maximum storage capacity available on the new smartphones is 128GB?

14. Lack of 5G support

In 2019, 5G is at the forefront of technology when it comes to mobile phones, but Pixel 4, the largest and strongest phone from Google, does not even offer a model to support the new technology. It is true that Apple falls into the same pit, but at least they are not known as an innovative company.

15. Lack of Wi-Fi technology 6

Any flagship phone launched in 2019 supports 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6. Except for Pixel 4, of course.

16. It's more expensive than the iPhone 11

The Pixel 4 costs $ 799 while the Pixel 4 XL is available for only $ 899, and these are prices for the 64GB versions. On the other hand, the 64GB iPhone 11 costs $ 699, 100 less than the Pixel 4.

To make matters worse, we also have a comparison:

  • For the price of a Pixel 4 64GB, you can buy an iPhone 11 128GB or a OnePlus 7 Pro with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage
  • For the price of Pixel 4 XL 64GB, you can buy an iPhone 11 256GB or OnePlus 7 Pro with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage after which you have more money for accessories.

So?

If these problems don't bother you, Google Pixel 4 is a great smartphone. It has the newest and best Android operating system. Google Assistant is faster than ever and understands everything you say. It offers new features that will be introduced on other Android devices in the future. You can even get a transcript of your records.

The performance may degrade over time, as will the launch speed of the camera application on the Pixel 3, which MKBHD has always complained about, but this can happen with all Android handsets.
