The three 2020 iPhone will include the 5 nm Apple A14 Bionic processor, 5G with Qualcomm's X55 modem, according to Nikkei

Rumors continue about the next generation of the Apple phone, which we will see in 2020 and that, almost in all likelihood, will receive the name of the iPhone 12. Without going any further, DigiTimes said that next year's iPhone It will inherit the ProMotion technology from the iPad Pro and therefore have a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

The latest news about the iPhone of 2020 comes to us from the well-known Nikkei media, which states that they will be powered by Apple's A14 Bionic microprocessor and that it will have a 5-nanometer architecture. Also, Nikkei ensures that the next-generation three models will include Qualcomm's Snapdragon X55 modem, so they will be compatible with 5G networks.

5 nanometers and 5G by 2020

It was last April when there was the talk for the first time that TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) would have planned the delivery to Apple of the first orders of 5 nanometer chips for the iPhone of 2020.

Although there was also talk of the possibility that the Apple A14 Bionic would be a 6-nanometer processor , Nikkei says that TSMC would have finished implementing the necessary infrastructure to manufacture 5-nanometer chips and, therefore, would be this architecture, and not 6 nanometers that would happen to the 7 nanometers used in the A12 of last year and the current A13.

Nikkei also says that Apple will also include in its next iPhone the necessary components to have 5G connectivity. This means that the three 2020 models would incorporate the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 modem, something that is not surprising after the collaboration agreement signed by both companies in April. The analyst Ming-Chi Kuo already announced in July that all iPhone models in 2020 would be compatible with 5G networks.

Finally, Nikkei says that the Cupertino company plans to manufacture about 80 million devices in 2020, exceeding estimates of sales of the iPhone 11. The increase would correspond to that radical design change that is expected for next year and would include screens OLED with the mentioned 120 Hz ProMotion technology and without the notch.
