Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Vs Huawei P30 Pro Comparison

The Huawei P30 Pro hit of 2019 is still one of the most popular smartphones on the market. The Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G is a more than worthy competitor from Samsung. But how does the direct comparison in the areas of camera, battery, and processor go? Get the popcorn out while the Asian giants hit with stunning specs.

Display: razor-sharp views

Whether films or photo albums: Both smartphones deliver a high level of quality and ultra-sharp resolution for optimal binge experiences. However, the 6.9-inch Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G has a resolution of 3,200 x 1,440 pixels higher than the 6.4-inch Huawei P30 Pro with 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. Both devices offer the highest protection in terms of scratch resistance thanks to Gorilla Glass 6 and are protected against dust and splash water according to IP68. The Huawei P30 Pro is considered a parrot among smartphones and is available in a wide range of colors: aurora, dark blue, light blue, lavender, orange and black. The Galaxy S20 Ultra is available somewhat more limited in black and gray.

Performance: Exynos 990 Vs Kirin 980

In terms of performance, the brand new Samsung Exynos 990 competes against the in-house HiSilicon Kirin 980. Both octa-core processors were manufactured using the 7-nanometer process. A three-part cluster is also the same. While in the Exynos 990 clocks with 2x 2.73 + 2x 2.6 + 4x 2.0 GHz. The Kirin 980 with 2x up to 2.6 + 2x 1.92 + 4x 1.8 GHz. The new Exynos thus surpasses the less clocked Kirin 980. With 8 GB RAM, the Huawei smartphone works routinely and does not break a sweat even at high speed and mass use. The Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G outshines the number with variants with 12 GB and 16 GB of RAM.

Camera: comparison of quad cameras

One thing in advance: Both cameras take excellent photos. The quad-camera developed by Leica in the Huawei P30 Pro is one of the best smartphone cameras ever. The buttons of the new Samsung flagship go one step further because the wide-angle lens shoots at a whopping 108 megapixels. Ultra wide-angle and telephoto shooting at 12 and 48 megapixels. The Huawei lags with 40 + 20 and 8 MP. The cameras with an additional ToF unit are arranged lengthways on the back of the two devices on the top left. The front camera on the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G takes photos with 40 MP, the Huawei P30 Pro is just behind with 32 MP.

Battery and storage: Stamina like top athletes

Both cell phones are also very close when it comes to batteries. The S20 Ultra offers a 5,000 mAh battery, the P30 Pro 4,200 mAh.

Both the Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Huawei P30 Pro are available in two memory variants. The South Korean is available with 128 GB or 512 GB, the Chinese with 128 GB and 256 GB. The new flagship comes from the factory with Android 10, the P30 Pro is delivered with Android 9 Pie and updated to Android 10 after commissioning.

Features: Wireless Power Share Vs Reverse wireless charging

Charging with cables is a thing of the past: With the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G and the Huawei P30 Pro, you can charge other devices that have inductive charging by hanging them up as if by magic. Wireless PowerShare became popular with the Galaxy S10 series. All new Samsung devices that have this function can be charged by placing them on the back of the smartphone. This of course also includes smartwatches, headphones and other smart devices. At Huawei, the counterparty is called Reverse Wireless Charging. This means that all devices that can be charged inductively can be charged by the Huawei P30 Pro. However, the charging processes take significantly longer than with the classic cable.

Also, the Samsung Galaxy S20 is ultra 5G capable. If the new cellular standard goes online, owners can benefit immediately.

Focal Length

Focal Length
The focal length is the distance between the lens and the image sensor when the subject is in focus, usually stated in millimeters. The 35 mm equivalent indicates the focal length at which a full-frame camera will achieve an angle of view that's the same as the one of the camera of the mobile device. It is measured by multiplying the native focal length of the camera by the crop factor of the sensor. The crop factor itself can be determined as the ratio between the diagonal distances of the image sensor in the 35 mm camera and a given sensor.

Conclusion: Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G Vs Huawei P30 Pro

Since the Huawei P30 Pro already leaves nothing to be desired, it is hardly possible to find an even better smartphone. However, the new flagship Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G is among the cellphones and even bigger, faster, just better. The camera enables sharper images thanks to improved resolution rates, and the working memory with enormous 12 GB or 16 GB makes us astonished. Of course, a new superlative smartphone also has its price. The Huawei P30 Pro is, therefore, the perfect affordable alternative.
