HMD Global, the company behind the new generation of Nokia phones, has had its upcoming phone, the Skyline, leaked online. The leaks reveal a feature set that positions the Skyline as a compelling mid-range option with some impressive specs.

Display to Impress

The Skyline is rumored to boast a large 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with HDR10+ support. This translates to vibrant colors, deep blacks, and excellent viewing angles – perfect for watching videos or gaming. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and a super responsive feel. To top it off, the display is protected by the latest Gorilla Glass Victus for added scratch resistance.

Performance and Storage

Under the hood, the Skyline is expected to pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC. While not the top-of-the-line processor, it should deliver solid performance for everyday tasks and even some light gaming. The phone comes in two RAM configurations: 8GB and 12GB. Both options are paired with 256GB of storage, offering ample space for your apps, photos, and videos.

Camera System

The camera department seems versatile, with a 108MP main sensor (likely the Samsung HM2) taking center stage. This is accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide sensor for capturing expansive landscapes and a 2MP sensor – possibly for macro shots or depth information. On the front, a 32MP autofocus camera ensures high-quality selfies and video calls.

Power, Connectivity, and Durability

The Skyline is rumored to pack a decent-sized 4900mAh battery with support for 33W wired fast charging and 30W wireless charging. This combination should keep you powered up throughout the day.

In terms of connectivity, the phone is expected to offer Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC for contactless payments. The inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack is a welcome feature for audiophiles who prefer wired headphones. The phone also boasts an IP67 dust and water resistance rating, meaning it can survive splashes and short dunks in water.

Software

The Skyline is expected to launch with the latest Android 14 operating system, with a commitment to 3 major Android OS upgrades and 3 years of security patches. A Business Edition is also rumored, offering an extended 5 years of security patches for those prioritizing data protection.

Price and Availability

The HMD Skyline is expected to launch around July 10th. The base variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is tipped to be priced at €459 (roughly ₹41,150 or $493). The 12GB RAM variant carries a slightly higher price tag of €499 (₹44,740 or $540). The Business Edition with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is expected to cost €520 (₹46,610 or $560).

With a powerful processor, a gorgeous display, a versatile camera system, and long battery life, the HMD Skyline appears to be a strong contender in the mid-range smartphone market. The inclusion of features like wireless charging and an in-display fingerprint scanner further sweetens the deal. We'll have to wait for the official launch to confirm these specs and pricing, but based on the leaks, the Skyline seems like a phone to watch out for.
